Whether you are hiring a barber or stylist or filling a chair for booth rent, what are things owners should look out for before allowing a stylist or barber to work under their roof?

What I suggest looking for is a track record of experience, good references and also a marketing plan. If they just plan on sitting in your shop looking for walk-in traffic that is not someone you want in your shop. I want someone that has the right attitude and realizes that this is more than just knowin' how to do hair!

I believe you need to find out yrs of experience, prior salons worked at.Those salons reputations if you have knowledge. The stylists work ethic and drive.A lot of factors come into play.Especially if you decide to try a newbie. They need to know they have to invest time and dedication to build a clientele.I recently had a girl who thought I was supposed to call her everytime a client came in...NOT!!!!! Suffice it to say that didn't work out.LOL

I agree with all the previous replies... Coming from corporate america, I have found that it is best to do a interview and reference check as you would do at a corp job .... Realize that just because you invite a stylist or barber to become a part of your team and set a start date, this does not mean that your spot will be filled.... Only when they show up and work for one month building their clientele and understand that it might take another three months or more for them to make any money that you have someone in it for the long haul.
