Default Should U Move to a new Barber Shop? Yes/No and Why? - 05-29-2008, 03:41 PM

Do you guys think that as a new barber to the game fresh outta school and currently working in a shop with not so consistent walk-ins, should try their luck at another shop to make more money. I heard you should at least give the shop you are in 1 yr and if it isn't working then move on. I've been at this shop for a little over a month and every week it seems I am making less than the previous week. 1 week I didn't even make booth rent. I jst don't know...

Hi murfee_lee

You didn’t give enough info about the shop your in, so with the info that you have given I would say no don’t leave. A month is not really enough time to establish yourself. I would not depend on the walk-in traffic, sometimes the walk in traffic is good and sometimes not. You’re just getting started and it takes time to build a clientele that will not only pay your booth rental fee but support life as you want to live it. In your down time instead of waiting for the possibilities of a walk-in to come though the door try promoting yourself. Pass out your business cards; offer your services at a discount for three to six months (if you charge $20 for haircut, run A special haircuts $14). There are times when it is better to make some money than no money at all. Sometimes when you are just starting out you have to give a little to gain a lot. In my opinion hair is the best business there is. Don’t sit back and wait for business to come to you GO GET IT!!!!! And while you are out there promoting yourself LOOK THE PART FROM HEAD TO TOE!!! And one more point weather you choose to stay or go, as a booth renter you are self employed and ultimately responsible for getting heads though the door and into YOUR CHAIR. Your business will only be as good as YOU make it.
Be Blessed
Best of Luck to You

try to find other ways to bring people in. make the people come to you and they will continue to come back if you give them great service and a quality cut. Try to give out coupons and entice potential customers to come get their haircut.
