Question What are your thoughts on kids in the salon/barbershop? - 05-03-2008, 06:59 PM

I know that many salons have policies on kids where they must be getting a service in order for them to be in the salon/barbershop. Others have other rules. What do think is the best way to handle kids.

No KIDS! No KIDS! NO KIDS!!!!!!!

The salon is not a day care. Would you take your kids to work with you? Would take your kids to a job interview? Children as beautiful as they are should not be brought to the salon unless they are receiving a service. Children are disruptive, loud, and playful. They break things, write on your walls, can empty a 5 gallon water cooler in hours time, cry and scream because they can’t have there way and there parents haven’t trained them how to act in public. And worst of all if they get hurt in your salon you could be looking at a law suit. (OOPS I’m sorry, reminiscing the old days when I allowed children at my salon). My customers like the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere at the salon since I OUTLAWED CHILDREN. Don’t get me wrong I love kids. But you can’t properly service a client and disciplined their children at the same time. So my rule no children at the salon unless receiving a service, and pick them up promptly when they are done. Now I did loose a few customers when I adopted that rule, but most of my customers understood, and my customers that didn’t have children were grateful. The salon should be a place where you come to relax and be pampered.

I think its important to understand that sometimes you must make a decision that may not make everyone happy. Like the No Kids without being serviced is important because kids are kids and can be destructive. We have the really bad ones and we have the hyper ones and then you have the kids. The customer should understand that you are not anti-kid, but pro-customer and want to give them the best service possible. And they should understand that others should be able to get their hair cut or styled without watching little Jimmy write "i'm bored" on someone's station or run through the shop because he just ate some candy.

Oh boy is this post near and dear to my heart.NO NO NO kids at all whether being serviced or not.I've worked at one too many salons where children ran wild as their parents sat by and said nothing. No my salon is not a daycare or a zoo.I've been subjected to ducking and dodging flying balls/toys.Nearly breaking my neck having to watch my step from one of their many messes.I vowed when I got my salon there would be absolutely no children.I wanted to provide my clients w/a serene and peaceful environment.
