Don't take it personally bruh and don't add fuel to the situation by getting nasty back! Usually when someone is having a bad day they're looking for someone to take out their frustrations out on because they can't deal with their own stress. Just so happens that it may happen to fall on you. Remember they're the paying customer so we got to respect the fact that they came to spend money in the shop. Also if it's a regular head, you should be able to tell if it's one of those days. If it's a first timer, just let 'em know you understand they havin' a bad day, and you're trying to help them get what they came for. Most will appreciate acknowledging and lighten up because you're not the bad guy! If it's a repeat head and they always like that then refuse 'em service, and let them know your reasons. Biggest thing though is to maintain your cool!

Holla!

Respectfully yours,
M-Boogie

Default Rude Customers - 03-31-2008, 09:16 PM

Stay calm, keep smiling, and politely ignore their rudeness. Chances are he/she is unhappy about something that doesn’t concern you (bills, babies, job, family, life). Don’t let their bad attitude affect your mood. For every rude nasty customer, there are 10 – 20 customers that appreciate you and the service you provide. I’ve been in this business 25+ years, and I had to learn how to master this skill. I had a customer that rubbed me the wrong way every time she stepped in the door. I call and ask my aunt who had been a hairstylist for year for advise. She told me to get paid, because evidently the customer liked my service because she kept coming back and that she was unhappy with something going on in her life and not me. I’ve bend doing her hair for 18 years, and now she one of my best customer. Stay calm, keep smiling, and politely ignore their rudeness. Keep your head up, offer GREAT customer service and GET PAID.

Wink TRY to understand. - 05-09-2008, 07:43 AM

I work on Syracuse University campus. When incoming freshman come in every fall, they treat me like i'm "Betty the hair-hacker" from Islip, No-mans land. Not understanding how big and diverse the campus is. We have a huge foreign population, and there is no one that I can't do.

These people are usually from the Long Island/Manhatten area. They are 18, and they are bitchy and scared. They've never left their regular stylist "Jose" or "Sebastian" and they assume that this little Syracuse salon is not going to pull it off. This in itself is annoying as hell. But i've dealt with it for 14 years. I've learned to feel a little sorry for them because they are scared. Even if their attitude is obnoxious!

I keep smiling. I assure them that they are in good hands, and by the end of the visit they are happy. And guess what, because it is Syracuse, they just paid a fraction of what it costs in Manhatten. So there. By the time these guys are Sophmores they are mine. They avoid the high prices of Manhatten, and wait untill they come back to Syracuse to get their hair done.

So I guess, try to understand where their attitude is coming from and maybe you can get a lot further with meeting their needs.
